Leona is a Partner in the Construction Law Group of the Civil Litigation Department, with a practice focused on commercial disputes and construction-related litigation. Leona represents clients at all levels of the construction industry including owners and developers, general contractors, subcontractors, trade unions and employee benefit trust funds. Leona is well-versed in managing complex matters involving deficiencies, construction liens, breach of trust, project delays, public infrastructure projects and multi-party disputes. She is also experienced in insolvency matters which commonly intersect with construction law.
Outside of her construction practice, Leona is experienced in handling commercial litigation matters including breach of contract, shareholder and partnership disputes, as well as property and real estate related litigation.
Leona appears regularly before various levels of courts in Ontario and has accumulated significant litigation experience involving trials, appeals, contested motions, and alternative dispute resolution. She is known as a fearless and effective advocate, who provides strategic and practical counsel to clients.
In addition to her court room experience, Leona also has expertise and success with Adjudications under the Construction Act.
Leona is also a member of the New York State Bar and graduated with distinctions from both University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and Michigan State University College of Law. In addition to English, Leona speaks fluent Cantonese and basic Mandarin.
