Civil Litigation
Our Civil Litigation group has an established reputation as a leader in commercial litigation in Ontario, with extensive litigation expertise and experience at all court levels, both trial and appellate, and before public and professional tribunals.
We represent professional bodies and institutions, businesses and individual clients on a range of matters, including contract disputes, construction and construction lien matters, employment, mortgage enforcement and commercial leasing litigation. We also actively promote the use of alternate dispute resolution methods where appropriate.
As part of our broader commercial litigation practice, our group has several key areas of expertise, including:
- Construction law: we represent some of Ontario’s largest builders, numerous general contractors, subcontractors, trade unions and employee benefit trust funds on all aspects of construction and construction lien litigation.
- Employment law: we represent non-unionized employers and employees in the full spectrum of employment law issues, from hiring to termination, including disability management, workplace investigations and human rights. In addition to our advocacy work, we provide clients with ongoing risk management advice – and have extensive experience drafting and negotiating complex employment contracts and related agreements.
- Privacy and Compliance: we have experience to advise you on compliance matters involving the application of privacy and data protection legislation to you, your clients and employees.
- Professional negligence and insurance: we represent insurers and their insureds on issues related to professional negligence, director and officer liability and all types of casualty and property policies.
