November 4, 2014
Koskie Minsky LLP is pleased to announce the creation of a new award in memory of The Honourable Justice Sydney L. Robins. The award is presented to any JD student on the basis of academic excellence, financial need and a demonstrated interest in Labour Law.
Justice Robins was called to the Bar of Ontario in September 1947 and received an LL.M degree from Harvard University in 1948. He served as a special lecturer on torts at Osgoode Hall Law School from 1948 to 1960. He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1962 and was first elected a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1961, and served as its Treasurer from 1971 to 1974. Justice Robins was appointed to the Supreme Court of Ontario in 1976, and was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 1981 where he remained until his retirement in 1998.
Justice Robins enjoyed a distinguished career as a highly respected Counsel. Among other things, he developed a unique Labour Law practice. It is this very practice which was continued by Koskie Minsky LLP, in recognition of which the Partners of Koskie Minsky LLP have established this Award.
The Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto has announced Jessica Fay as the inaugural recipient of the Honourable Justice Sydney L. Robins Award for 2014.
