Koskie Minsky LLP Diversity Moot, BLSAC Conference Toronto, ON
February 25, 2011 - February 25, 2011
Sponsor Acknowledgement to Koskie Minsky LLP from outgoing President of BLSAC
This weekend the Black Law Students Association of Canada celebrated its 20th anniversary in Toronto, ON with its biggest conference yet. The conference featured 76 speakers and a closing gala with 224 guests, where the founders of BLSAC were honored. Over 140 delegates gathered to share their experiences and knowledge of the legal profession. On behalf of BLSAC I would like to thank Koskie Minsky for your support.
The weekend began with empowering speeches by the Honourable Former Justice Romain Pitts, Sharon Ffolkes-Abraham and Florence Chumpuka about the challenges of becoming a Black lawyer in Canada prior to 1990. This set the tone for an engaging, thought provoking and informative conference. Highlights from the event include a talk from the Honourable Justice Valerie Miller, FMC Law keynote; panels on various areas of law such as labour and employment, corporate governance and human rights; and a performance by the Ballet Creole at the Blakes Opening Ceremonies. The Koskie Minsky Diversity Moot finals closed the day sessions on Saturday.
BLSAC would not be able to continue to support and enhance the academic, professional and networking opportunities for Black law students without the help of our sponsors. Your support is truly appreciated.
