Cheques are now being mailed to Class Members whose claims under the Settlement were approved. If your address has changed or if you do not receive your cheque within three weeks, please contact the Claims Administrator by email (info@cpriclassaction.ca) or phone (1-866-640-9989 or 1-877-627-7027 (TTY)).
The Settlement includes a table which sets out the amounts of compensation that could be paid for each approved claim. The Settlement states that if the total amount required to pay all approved claims is more than (exceeded) the amount available in the settlement fund, payments would be reduced on a pro rata (proportionately equal) basis.
There was significant participation in this Settlement process. Hundreds of people bravely came forward to make claims under the Settlement. Due to the significant participation in this Settlement process, all settlement funds have been applied to pay the claims. Payments for approved claims will be about 15% less than the amounts set out in the Settlement, but a larger group of individuals will receive compensation.
We know that Class Members have been waiting many years, and we cannot begin to understand what it was like to be a child or teenager who suffered such severe harms. While no amount of money can compensate for the harms that Class Members experienced, we hope this compensation will provide at least some sense of justice and closure.
