Istuary Innovation Group and Associated Companies

In 2017 and 2018, certain employees (the “Affected Employees”) of the Istuary Group filed Employment Standards Complaints with the Ontario Ministry of Labour for unpaid salaries, vacation, and termination pay.

An Employment Standards Officer from the Ministry of Labour ordered the various members of the Istuary Group to pay the Affected Employees in respect of their claims. Certain members of the Istuary Group (the “Settling Defendants”) then  then appealed the decision to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (“OLRB”).

Koskie Minsky LLP was retained by approximately 25 Affected Employees to represent them in these proceedings at the OLRB. A committee of the Affected Employees was formed to provide instructions to Koskie Minsky LLP (“the Employee Committee”).

A preliminary motion brought by the Settling Defendants to dismiss the claim was dismissed by the OLRB.

A mediation occurred where the Affected Employees and the Settling Defendants reached a proposed settlement. The settlement, which will see approximately 50% of the value of each employee’s claim paid, covers all Affected Employees of Istuary and its related companies.
