Rudy joined the Civil Litigation department in 2022. Prior to joining Koskie Minsky LLP, Rudy has practiced as a human rights lawyer and workplace investigator for leading workplace investigation firms in Toronto and Western Canada. As a workplace investigator, Rudy assists clients with his expertise in conducting investigations into allegations of discrimination, harassment, and employee misconduct. Rudy has provided trusted guidance and advice to large employers and institutional clients. He understands and is sensitive to the reputational risks encountered by large organizations and the public scrutiny that can arise during times of crisis. Rudy also works to assist employers in maintaining inclusive and respectful work environments and to ensure that their goals of inclusion and civility are preserved.
Rudy received his law degree (Juris Doctor) from Osgoode Hall Law School. Rudy was called to the Ontario Bar in 2018 and called to the Alberta bar in 2022. He articled at the Ontario College of Teachers working in the Investigations and Hearings Department where he provided tribunal support to the Discipline Committee. Rudy also acted as Counsel for the College in prosecuting College members for professional misconduct or incompetency.

Secret Recording of Termination Meeting Fatal to Employer’s Defence

In March 2024, the Court of Appeal for Ontario dismissed an employer’s appeal from the judge’s decision in Teljeur v. Aurora Hotel Group, 2023 ONSC 1324 (“Teljeur”). The Honourable Justice Michael K. McKelvey of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice awarded seven months’ pay in lieu of notice and $15,000 in aggravated damages to a dismissed employee.
